Nuclear Option: Report Fraud

Last Resort — Use When A Dealer Has Committed Fraud

1. Evidence Checklist

Before leaving the dealership, use your phone to capture the following evidence:

  • The original online ad — screenshot it immediately. If the price or features changed when you arrived, this proves bait-and-switch.
  • All text messages and emails from the salesperson — these are admissible evidence of verbal promises and price agreements.
  • The "Four-Square" worksheet or Buyer's Order — photograph every version they show you. This documents hidden fees and price manipulation.

DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING. Once you sign, your leverage drops dramatically. Walk out with your evidence.

2. Federal Strike

File complaints with both federal agencies. The CFPB heavily regulates auto-loan packing and has issued millions in fines against dealerships engaged in deceptive financing practices.

3. State Strike

File complaints with both of these state-level bodies. These agencies have the power to revoke a dealership's license to operate — this is the threat dealers fear most.

Three Reports. Zero Surprises.

Never trust a single data broker. Each provider uses different databases. Human errors in data entry mean one report might miss an accident or title issue that another catches. The gold standard: when three independent sources say the same thing.

Cross-reference all three for maximum protection
